Inspiration
It started off as a way to keep myself from being bored at work and developed into something
that no one would have imagined. As a production technician at Bayou Steel, I started freestyling and writing rap songs as
a way to pass the time on those long 12 hour shifts. With every freestyle and every song that I wrote, my skills continued
to grow stronger and stronger. It wasn't until my dawg Renaldo "Naughty" Friloux mentioned to me
that I could make it as a rapper that I realized he was on to something. At first I was kind of skeptical, but when I really
sat down and thought about it, I realized that I had nothing to lose. Either I make it or I don't.
I have always loved rap music but now that I've made up my mind to become a rap artist, I pay
more attention to the music that I listen to. Picking up on different styles and structure, I have increased my skills even
more.
D. SLIM
Coming up with a name was really fun. I thought of using my real name at first but then I thought
that maybe another name would sound more attractive. that's when the thought process began. I wanted a moniker that would
describe me without being something fake. One day it finally hit me. D. SLIM! I'm slim and my name
is Devrin so hey why not?
DOWN BOTTOM
Now that I have a stage name, its time to make a name for my label. In order
to select a name that was not already taken, I had to go to www.uspto.com, the United States Patent and Trademark website, to make sure that the name I wanted was free. First I tried Bayou Boy Records
but my co-worker Dwight "Ghetto Thug" Jones told me that someone already had it. Once again, I
entered the thought process to select another name. Then it hit me. Louisiana is at the bottom of the map and I reside at
the bottom of Louisiana. What else other than Down Bottom Records?
Now or Never
Now that everything is in place, its time to start making hits and getting rich.
My next thing is time either build a studio or buy an abandoned building and make a studio out of it. Its gonna be hard but
I'll use the proceeds from selling my mixtapes and albums to get my studio up and running. Now that the game plan is in full
effect, I can only "Grind Til I Shine."
